Since 2012, the national research organization SINTEF has worked on the project I hear you, where the goal is to help hearing impaired children in developing countries. In Tanzania, hearing screenings are rare, which often results in a lot of children not getting proper help. SINTEF approached us and asked if we could develop a screening tool in form of a game. The game’s goal was to reveal the child’s hearing level and find out who needed further follow-up.

The finished game for touch screens is designed to interpret data correctly while at the same time give the children a fun game experience. This resulted in us having to remove many classical tools used in game design since they didn’t mix well with our main target – to do a valid screening. By using fun animals and quirky animations we guide the children through high and low frequences, and find out whether they hear the sounds or not.
